Are you a fun-loving, adventurous person caught in a dilemma of where to go, how to get started and what to do when wakeboarding for the first time?
Well then, here’s the perfect splash of fun, with a dapper sport combination, known as wakeboarding. Hold on tight to the rope and get on your tippy-toes for a breathtaking water-sporting experience of a lifetime!
How To Wakeboard?
Wakeboarding is achieved by standing on a board which is attached to a speed boat by a rope. This powerboat pulls the board across a serene lake or calm waters, at first, very gently. Beginners wakeboarding is often quite slow-paced and relaxed although you will take some time getting used to it.
When you become a pro boarder, and you have the passion for adventurous sport, then wakeboarding is never smooth and serene, however, if you stick to the rope that is tied to powerboats you’ll have a great time. Wakeboarders perform certain kinds of exciting leaps and flips and tricks that when you are confident enough, you’ll surely want to learn.
Depending on the surfers, there are numerous types and sizes of boards built for wakeboarding. With a mouth and a tail, they are all about 5 feet long and 2 feet wide in the middle. It’s crucial to know a few tips and tricks on board before you get your toes on it for a safe and splendid wave.
Keep it smooth
Starting out with a strong, smooth and tender rhythm is always easier. Never haul yourself all alone while wakeboarding. Keep your arms straight, and bend your legs, and let the boat lift you up. It’s not about you dragging yourself; instead, you need to keep your balance and enjoy the tricks and turns.
Know your level and let tell driver too
Starting with slow and stable surfing on the water, you’ll need the drivers to support too. You need to be mindful of your skills. Whether you’re a novice or an advanced level player, the pace can impact.
If you’re a novice, going between 18 and 21 mph is always easier. Let the driver know which speed you want, to start well and smoothly.
Spin at the peak
Wait patiently before performing tricks like flips, before the board hits the jump’s height. Don’t forget to keep your hands at your waist level and let the board come out of the water fully.
Being hasty may cause you a serious injury as you can fall right in front and hit your face on the water. Apart from your face hitting the water, which might be a little uncomfortable, don’t be afraid to try!
Go for the shorter one.
It’s always safer to use a shorter rope for beginner wakeboarding, because, the shorter the rope, the closer you are to the boat so that you can clearly hear the advice provided by the trainer or the driver.
The better you hear, the quicker you will learn!
Keep the handle low.
It is often safer to pick a shorter rope to clutch on in beginner wakeboarding. This is because, the smaller the rope length, the narrower the space you have, so you can clearly hear the advice the trainer or driver gives.
The ollie
For those who are willing to do tricks, but lack confidence and ability to jump on the wakes. Ollie is the best answer to that.
The surfer has to drive the tail of the board down in the water when doing this trick in wakeboarding. They need to make sure he/she has built up enough slack on the rope. Through doing so, the surfer will be able to pop up the water, not a leap, but a bunny hop.
Adhere on to Fakie
It’s a one-foot wakeboarding. Practising fakie makes you able to do almost all tricks at a quick and smooth pace. When you’ve been taught to step backwards, it’s much easier to do tricks with your front foot.
Crossing the wake
Crossing the wake is a fundamental aspect of wakeboarding. It’s a tough nut to crack if the pace is very high. Approach it gently at first with slightly bent knees and retain balance.
Jump high
Jumping is a simple trick if it’s done correctly. You’ve got to stretch your legs and body as the wake raises the board. Edge through the wake is a simple tip to get a good height for your jump. Never relax the pull on the rope as you get closer to the wake.
Know your best foot
One of the simplest wakeboarding tips for everyone in general, particularly beginners, is to decide the foot you want to face forward. Before you go out to the lake, you must carefully choose the foot to face forward. It’s cardinal because the foot you choose serves as your protector when you lose your balance.
Maintain the weight balance
Balancing your body is really important for wakeboarding. The surface is thin, and you’re on a wild water ride. The best trick to keep your balance is to pick the correct foot and keep it facing forward. This also helps preserve the balance of weight when jumping or other tricks.
Surface 180
Before preparing to perform a waking jump, Surface 180 is a trick that is ideally suited to novice wakeboarding. Surface spin is a simple trick you can learn by training. Keep your elbows locked in your neck, turn your neck around by turning your hip and bending your knees. There are two styles of turns, front and back. Try beginning your surface spin when the boat is going at a good speed, and when you’re out of the water.
Fashion air
In the wake, boarding tricks add up to your points. The more interesting the trick, the higher you rate. This is a styling trick, as the name suggests. Initially, the rider curves the board back into his own rear while holding his knees down. While in the air, the rider throws up stylish poses putting his hand behind his back, and so on.
Moby Dick
The rider is compared to Melville’s great Moby Dick whale. Here, the operator has to do the tantrum. Now the wakeboarder begins a backflip with a 360-degree back turn. Remember to adjust the handler’s hand to maintain the weight balance.
The spotter is inevitable.
This is a simple tip for all water riders, particularly wakeboarders. Ensure that there is a designated spotter to help you move the driver according to your preference. This spotter is often used to locate hazards or objects in the water.
So get your boots on and head to the water for a thrilling wave. Don’t forget to follow the tips and tricks while you’re in the water. These are common for all riders. Try to curb up your excitement and enjoy a smooth trip!
